Strouds Run State Park (Dow Lake)

Located just minutes from Athens, Strouds Run State Park features Dow Lake where visitors can canoe, boat, fish or swim. The park has more than 16 miles of hiking and bridle trails, several picnic areas and 80 campsites. Acres of uninterrupted hardwood forest sprawl over the many hills and coves of the park. The rugged terrain and scenic lake provide visitors a unique wilderness escape in southeastern Ohio.

Lake Snowden Education & Recreation Park

Lake Snowden was built for the Margaret Creek Conservancy District in 1968 with federal funds through the Farmer’s Home Administration and the Soil Conservation Service. It is the largest of four lakes built in an effort to control flooding and form the Margaret Creek Conservancy District. Lake Snowden opened to the public in 1972. Six hundred seventy-five acres of park-owned land encompasses the lake which covers approximately 136 acres. Hocking College purchased Lake Snowden from the Le-Ax Water District in 1998.
