Columbiana County

History

Columbiana County, established in 1803, has resources that are as vast as its tales of lore. The discovery of rich clay deposits in the area of East Liverpool led to the birth of the county's pottery industry in the 1840s. Charles Morgan Foulks founded the Sprucevale Pottery Company. In addition, nearly all settlers who traveled west passed through the village of New Lisbon, making it America's "Gateway to the West."

Business Opportunities

Columbiana communities, with a strong family farm and industrial heritage, enjoy many advantages such as a talented available workforce, low cost of living (the price of a new home is ranked one of the lowest in the entire U.S.), small town quality of life with a more relaxed, rural lifestyle, and abundant and economical energy resources. The ability to attract technical, management and executive candidates is enhanced by the county's location near major metropolitan centers. The Columbiana Port Authority, Redex Industries and Sekely Industries, Inc. of Columbiana County were part of the delegation of 42 Ohio companies led by Ohio Governor Bob Taft on his Ohio business mission in Mexico.
Business Growth and Potential
In the heart of the Cleveland-Pittsburgh Industrial Corridor and the Midwest, Columbiana County is perfectly located to serve the region's cluster industries of automotive, aerospace, polymer, chemical and metals. Cities such as East Liverpool, Wellsville, Salem and Leetonia offer a strategic plus few other areas can match: access to the Ohio River, which puts the world's markets and materials within Columbiana County's reach. Companies locating or growing in Columbiana County can take advantage of a broad range of transportation options by rail, air, highway or waterway.
