Education - Training Incentives and Programs

Training providers in Ohio can apply for certification by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services One-Stop Employment and Training Centers Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding. Eligible unemployed persons or low-wage workers have access to Individual Training Accounts (ITA's) that offset training expenses. Firms also have direct access to WIA funding to support training programs as well as the Ohio Investment in Training Program.

Ohio Investment in Training Program (OITP)
Provides financial assistance and technical resources for customized training involving employees of new and expanding Ohio businesses. Emphasis on manufacturing and selected employment sectors; must have significant training and capital investment related to creating and retaining jobs. Rate & Terms: Up to 50 percent reimbursement to fund instructional costs, materials and training-related activities. Contact the Governor's Regional Office @ 740-775-0612


Ohio Training Tax Credit Program
The Training Tax Credit is authorized within Ohio Revised Code Section 5733.42. It was created in July 1999 within Amended Substitute House Bill 283 and amended in Substitute Senate Bill 287 (December, 2000). This is a nonrefundable franchise tax credit designed to encourage Ohio's corporations to provide necessary training to its current Ohio workforce that is at risk of being displaced because of skill deficiencies or the inability to use new technologies.
