By Road Southeast Ohio is located within one-day's drive of about 60 percent of the U.S. population and about 50 percent of Canada's population. Interstate 77 passes through the region. The divided four-lane highways U.S. Route 33, U.S. Route 50 and State Route 32 also serve the region. By Rail Southeast Ohio is served by Norfolk & Southern as well as CSX. Additionally, the Indiana & Ohio Central and Ormet Railroad Corporation shortline railroads serve the region. By Inland Waterway About as much tonnage of freight is shipped on the Ohio River and Lake Erie each year than passes through the Panama Canal. Southeast Ohio has two commercial inland waterway terminals for movement of bulk materials. By Air Commercial air service is available from: Port Columbus International Airport -- Columbus, Ohio -- is served by 11 major air carriers and had 6.6 million passengers in 2001. Ohio University Airport -- Athens, Ohio -- accommodates corporate jets Chuck Yeager Airport -- Charleston, W.V. -- is served by 6 regional air carriers. Wood County Airport -- Parkersburg, W.V. -- has daily connections to the Pittsburgh Airport.
