Operating Cost : Utilities

Southeast Ohio has abundant and affordable energy to fuel your business growth.
  • Abundant Power - The eight-county southeast Ohio region is home to five electric generation plants (two coal-fired, two natural gas-fired and one hydroelectric plant) with a total generating capacity of 3,176 megawatts. Additional generating capacity is located immediately adjacent to southeast Ohio on the West Virginia side of the Ohio River.

  • Affordable Power - Southeast Ohio has historically been served by three primary electric utilities. American Electric Power, Allegheny Power and the rural cooperatives network. Ohio’s electric deregulation law now allows customers to choose their electric generation provider. While utility rates will depend upon the utility provider and customer usage, Allegheny Power and AEP historically have average industrial rates below state and national averages, according to the Edison Electric Institute. (Rates for cooperatives were unavailable.) Similar savings can be found with natural gas. Notice the rates listed in Columbus and Marietta in this Public Utilities Commission of Ohio report. --- Ohio Utility Rate Survey, August, 2003
