Welcome to the Governor's Office of Appalachia!

The Governor's Office of Appalachia (GOA) facilitates economic and community development in the 29 Appalachian counties of Ohio. The office, involved with both short- and long-term planning, also serves as an advocate for the region by developing policy and promoting specific projects and proposals that originate from the region's residents.

The demand for clean energy and efficient energy use is creating a new energy sector and generating new opportunities for business growth and job creation. How can Appalachian communities grow green jobs in today's evolving energy economy? ARC's October 2009 conference will share ideas and best practices on how communities can use their energy resources and emerging energy technologies and practices to diversify and strengthen their economies. Topics will include growing green enterprises, developing energy-efficient facilities, and building new-energy education and training programs.

Women in Appalachia Conference, September 9, 2009


Register today for the Women in Appalachia Conference planned for September 9, 2009 in Piketon, OH. Sponsored by the Ohio State University South Centers, the program will include educational programs to nurture the body, mind and spirit. Learn ideas to enrich communication, enhance relationships, build leadership, strengthen finances, and improve health and aging through better nutrition. Ohio Treasurer Kevin L. Boyce’s Smart Money Choices Tour


Registration Now Open for Smart Money Choices: Hard Times to Hope. The conference will offer different strategies and resources to assist and support individuals during our country’s current economic hardship. Breakout sessions will include; Budgeting, Credit & Debt Management, and Retirement Planning.

The event will be held on Friday, August 28th at Washington State Community College in Marietta, Ohio located at 710 Colegate Drive. The first session will begin at 8 a.m., followed by workshops, lunch, and a guest motivational speaker.

Hard Times to Hope conference is free and open to the general public, but advance registration is required to participate.
